Hi All

I intend to add some lime to my plot this year. How soon do I need to do this before planting and what amount do I need per sq metre ?

Depends upon what you plan on growing in it!

For example Potatoes do not like lime whereas Brassicas do.

This link might give you some ideas;

Hi_Hoe

Im in need of lime this year. My soil has become really acidic (Im putting that down to the constant heavy rain last year), but have never used it before.

Where can I get it from? Ive seen it Buy and Queue for about 4 quid, but thats for only a small box. To lime a full lottie would cost a fortune!!

If tha does nowt, tha gets nowt. Simple!

Thanks TG answered my question. Is that your site if it is its great.

Hi Hoe I am getting mine from my local nursery/farm shop £8.00for a 25 kg bag. Maybe look online or if you have a local nursery maybe they will order it in for you.

Hi_Hoe

Cheers steve1967 - advice taken :happy7:

Tee Gee - that is very cheap for 25Kg. Where did you get it from?

I think my mate gets it from here;

We do not have a "site shop" as such so me and my mate, although it is mainly him, bulk buy for the 25 allotments on our site and a similar amount on his.

Each year he negotiates a deal in   Oct/ Nov for all our horticultural supplies and has it delivered to his garage then we distribute it to those that have placed orders.

I don't know what he get the goods for, and I am not particularly bothered providing I get a deal substantially cheaper than retail!

He has a similar arrangement with a seed potato merchant so we tend to keep the price of these to around 45 p per pound

I got quite a surprise when I looked them up and saw the retail price which is comparable with yours.

What he did tell was that things were going to be dearer this year but by how much I don't know, as I won't be taking delivery of my stuff till later this month.

But I am getting the feeling he must be getting up to 50% off his order for bulk buying.

I do know that he must order £100 + to get free delivery.

I know the order I place each year for me and my friends generally tops £200 so if he is selling a similar amount this must put him in a good negotiating position!

If I think on I will let you know what I was charged when I get the bill

BTW Yes that is my website!
