Here's hoping everyone has their fair share of good things in 2013.

Happy New Year........ and it's not raining here!!

Happy new year to everybody!  Yes it is very dark and raining here again, but yesterday we had a lovely walk in the grounds of Calke Abbey.  That was special and I didn't want it to end.  Muddy underfoot, but the weather was really cooperative and there was a little bit of warmth and strength in the sun to enjoy.

My good news is that I'm very happy to be back home where we live in SW France, after three weeks in the UK.  As I sit typing this, it has stopped raining, the sun has come out, and I can see  through the window in front of me some beautiful sunlit mountains that are now brilliantly and startlingly white with new snow!
We've also just gone into the garden and dug up some very long leeks, some Jerusalem artichokes, and  three parsnips - the longest of which is all of 56cm long - over 22ins!

I think home is always the best place to be no matter what the weather.

It's been pretty mild here and we almost had a dash of sun across the Southdowns the other day. Very slowly the days are getting longer and I heard a few birds start their spring chorus... albeit a little early.

My good news:

My mother enjoyed her 93rd birthday on Sunday and the family met up to have dinner with her and my father in the evening.

Good new is that the 'grey vail' of gloom that I've been feeling last few months is starting lift up....not been my cheery self just lately.
Its funny what a difference  couple hours sun shine can do for you...I do start to think I might have touch of SAD this winter. But...doze of compost and few seeds are doing their bit for my well being as well and I'll be soon on my full speed again  :blob7: :icon_cheers: :sunny:

Sun? what sun? Haven't seen it for a week or more. Dark, gloomy drizzle all day yet again so I cheered myself up by baking a tart of apples, plums and puff pastry - all of which needed using up.

The good news here is (sunshine included) - I'm home for an hour and a half. My mother hasn't had a mini-stroke and is now on antibiotics, the wheel chair bought for my father fits in and around the new bungalow.......my mother fits in it....

I've remembered it's Wednesday and my name.

Tiredness passes.

How's everyone elses day?

Had a cataract op a couple of weeks ago and now can SEE.  Had probs over last couple of years since I sneezed and detached retina in that eye.

My mother had her cataract operated on.... she couldn't believe the difference in colours. A wonderful thing!!

Hope you enjoy the sights.

My daughter was diagnosed with lymphoma last May.  She had chemo and
lots of painful procedures and never complained even once.

She went for the result of her latest scan on Monday - and it was clear!  :icon_cheers:  :blob7:  :blob7:  :blob7:

Excellent news, Betty. That's so hard for all of you. One friend of mine is 4 years clear now, another is 24 years clear, good luck to your daughter.

Thank you Small, Betula, Lottie Lou and Grawrc.

The past eight months seem like a nightmare.  It was such a shock because
she never felt ill, ate healthily and exercised regularly (unlike her mother)
I couldn't talk about it to anyone because it made me so upset and I didn't
want people constantly asking how she was.  I only told one friend who is
also having treatment, and my dog-walking friend who kept asking me why
my daughter wasn't doing the job she loved.

The good news is still sinking in....

Ouch!  So sorry you had all the problems with your eyes and glad that it is sorted now.  One of my eyes 'blinks' of its own accord and I have been checked for retina problems at GP, optician and local eye hospital, but luckily ok.  It is so frightening.  Glad you are now able to put this behind you and SEE again.

I am so sorry you had to bear all this worry.  Fabulous news.  So happy that her scan is clear now after what sounds like a nightmare of unpleasant treatments.  Happy news indeed.  Hug for you.
