I got robbed!

PPfff am SSSOOOOO pissed off. Last night, coming home on the tram, some thug ripped my smartphone right out of my hand and just made off with it. I am absolutely gutted. I was unhurt but pretty shaken up, it was so fast.
Cancelled the calling, changed all my passwords. But no more phone, which was a really nice one, given to us by our company, on the occasion of a big contract. I won't be able to get one like THAT again.
Utter bardstads... The guys at the transport company who helped me out told me that last week, a pregnant woman got knocked to the ground so they could steal her phone.
Total scumbags.

That is so gutting, antipodes.  Really sorry for you.  When I read of something like this I'm glad that our phones are about 8 years old and definitely not smart.

I do believe there is an app you can download remotely, even after the phone has been stolen, then the police can track it down.  Look up PLAN B

Having had my purse stolen last year I can understand your fury, thank god no one would ever want my phone. Does your household insurance cover it?

I had my mobile stolen in France too about 10 years ago- after more than 50 years of safe travel there.

In the 60s and 70s I used to wander the streets of Paris (and elsewhere) at will with no fear of theft or assault. What has changed?

@Ace  Some phones can be traced - but only if you actually looked up the option that manages that, and activate it. It is turned off by default.
The IMEI number, which is a sort of identifier for the phone, has been reported as stolen, so theoretically operators can't sell a SIM for the phone. But i am sure they have ways of getting around that.

@lottie lou Yes, fine, it's nice to ask, I was a bit shocked when it happened. but I wasn't actually hurt.

@grawc No they are not covered by insurance. Many of you may get a shock if you lose or break your phones, usually they are not covered. To make it worse, it was given by my company, who themselves did not actually buy it as it was a gift from a supplier. So technically it had 0 value... 

Maybe I could get rich making a little gadget that attaches people's phones to them, while still allowing them to use it? A kind of security wire? :)  It's a thought.

With a touch of the Charles Bronsons I though if your phone was fitted with a few grams of C4 and a remote switch in your pocket you could watch the thief run down the road with your phone flick the switch and blow their hand off, the crime rate would drop dramaticalyly as no one would know who had an exploding phone.

Thats a terrible thing to happen ,my daughter's phones are covered by the bank think its inclued in the  credit card insurance Loyds bank, any help? am glad we have got steam mobiles nobody looks twice at them unless for a laugh

LOL that's for sure.
Saw a TV show last night that depressed me even further - the guys steal phones in stations, on trains etc and then go straight and fob them off to a reseller who pays them about 100 quid, and he thens sends the phones off to another country (e.g. north Africa, eastern europe) where he gets double the price for it.
Chop off their hands....
