I have now set up this JustGiving page, which will remain open until early in the New Year, where members can donate to Thrive, the charity using gardening and horticulture to change the lives of disabled people.

https://www.justgiving.com/a4adonations12/

Please donate the amount you want to give, however small, and after doing so you'll see that you can add a message to your donation, change your name or even make it and the amount anonymous if you wish.
Don't forget the Gift Aid if you're a UK taxpayer.

Any problems please either comment here or, if you prefer, send me a PM.

Ordinary lives, ordinary people

Rebecca; a lovely teenager with a sweet smile is the youngest of three sisters, it's just that she has Downs syndrome.  Before coming to Thrive she was struggling with school and unsettled at home. Thanks to Thrive's practical approach to learning in a garden, Rebecca has become a happy and enthusiastic member of her gardening group and she has built up her skills. She now loves being "one of the girls" and talking about school and what she's planning next for her garden

Tom was 18 when a car accident nearly killed him. Thrive's therapists understood Tom's needs and set about teaching him how to overcome his disabilities. Through Thrive's "Working it Out" Programme Tom gained a City and Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Work Based Horticulture. Today Tom has a job he loves as a gardener, he is independent and he will be 25 in November 2011

Kenneth Macdonald was a high flyer. But his life changed dramatically when he was badly beaten by thugs on a trip back to his native New Zealand to see his sick mother. Kenneth's brain injury meant that he was in hospital for three months and faced a long period of rehabilitation following the horrendous attack.
"No one will employ me now in a stressful job," he says matter-of-factly. "But Thrive has given me a chance to re-train and do something completely different."

I got an email this morning asking if I would pass this message on  -

Thank you very much for choosing Thrive to benefit from your 2012 Christmas charity gift.
Gardening brings profound change to people recovering from stroke or living with heart disease, also those coping with physical disabilities, sight loss, recovering from an accident or coping with early stage dementia - Thrive really can change peoples lives.
Everyone at Thrive really appreciates your support. Thrive relies on charitable donations to support our work and to have groups like yours spreading the word undoubtedly works.
Best wishes, Tina Rhodes, Fundraising Assistant.
