Accommodation in London Town

Bit of an odd one this ...

Off to London Town for the last weekend in October and thinking about places to stay, was going to go for the obvious hotel option but someone mentioned airbnb, where you basically rent rooms or whole properties from individuals.

Has anyone used airbnb or any similar service?  If so how was it?

If you have spent any time in the military, the Union Jack Club is basic but clean.  The food is good as well.

I've used airbnb and it worked for us! Organisation was easy and on talking to the landlady she seemed pleased with it as well.
