Are there any places which are worse for biting insects? We are planning a big, family holiday somewhere warm next year and there are 3 pre-school children and me who are going to be bitten  ;D

Your own particular brand of toe cheese determines if the mozzies are going to go for you or not.

According to some Dutch scientists a few years ago.

No Mozzies here but that's cos apart from my pond there's no standing water for miles around. Worst places I've found have both been places where there's intensive irrigation like the Ebro Delta and Seville, both are rice growing areas. That's not really a lot of help, is it - but avoid the paddy fields  :)
Location: North East Spain - freezing cold winters, boiling hot summers with a bit of fog in between.

Yes, holidaying with my daughter one summer we learned the hard way to avoid lakes both in Germany (camping on the way) and Italy (Lake Orta). Nightmare of biting insects - we fled from Orta to a Swiss camp site with only running water, up a mountain.

Avoid the camargue area of France - between Marseille and Montpellier - lots of rice fields, horses and bulls - wonderful in spring and autumn, but the worst place for mozzies!

Thaks, all. We have found 2 properties, one in Alicante and one in Andalucia. I'll buy some spray just in case  ;D

And wear shoes not sandals if you go there - I got bitten by a wasp spider last year. Didn't half make me yelp. Not a good day as I dropped my camera in the Med as well, totally buggering my zoom lens  :-[

Flamingoes are pretty though

I've not had any problems in Andalucia, mind you when I'm there my blood is usually 50% proof. Hic.

MOH can attract mozzies from 50 paces away !!! He swears by the sun cream & after sun that you can buy in Boots (Soltan) which also contains mozzie repellant.
I didn't think that it would really work but I had to eat my words a few weeks ago down in France. It all helps.
