Soya Beans

I have just ordered soya bean seeds "black jet".
I know soya is notoriously difficult to grow over here due to various reasons (light, heat etc.), but was wondering if anyone has had any success with them in the UK?
I so blame Wagamama's and their edamame side dish for wanting to grow these! ;)

with a hot April last year, my soya beans only managed one foot high and I got 10 beans from 20 seeds...might be short of care from.me as Iwasaway whole June

I grew them in the Uk but started them very early , it is a good idea to use early maturing ones too, there is quite a difference between the varieties, the black one you have I believe is a late one but I will check and get back to you if I am wrong.

Back again. Just checked my notes and packets from 2 years ago.

Black Jet is 104 days to maturity compared to Envy which is 75, Toyha which is  78 and even Butterbean  it's name) at 90 as I said it is a late one.That is a month later than some.

I bought soya beans for the same reason as you Doris I love wagamama edame beans.
I bought some called Elena. I forgot to sow them but this thread has reminded me. I will try a few in my greenhouse in a container.

Thanks for your replies, Jeannine, I didn't realise they took that long to mature, so I have probably missed the boat, thanks for the info, will give them a go anyhow in case we have spectacular soya loving weather here this year! ;) Duke, I could eat a portion right now just cos I have thought about them again ;D

Hi I have six soybean plants grown from left over  dried beans from supermarket do you think I will get any beans?

I bought some Elena from Fothergills in order to try my own edamame too. I presoaked them yesterday to get the first roots to appear then I will pot them in the greenhouse to get them going with heat then I will plant outside. Who knows what the result will be?
I had wondered whether they would fit in after I start lifting my first early potatoes. I will try and keep you posted.

Whoops, too late. The root is appearing on half of them. I'd best pot them up then. What is the likely problem?

They rot very easily, often the cause of no shows.Warm,m well drained soil is best. They don't like lots of nitrogen by the way it is often the cause of poor set and then delays to maturity. Sometimes they flower but don't set pods, thois can be s shortage of zinc so give them a kelp seaweed spray. Don't crowd them .
