path through the rasps

The rasp bed it looking  like a jungle, :(you can't see the paths in between the 4 rows,  I had to dig out young rasps and cut shoots out that were to thin,we ran out of stuff to keep weeds down and keep the beds from drying out I went and got a load of rhubarb leaves lg ones and put them down! has anyone done this sort of thing , ;D it looked OK when we got the new straw on top .

I've used rhubarb leaves as a mulch before, but they do tend to disappear quite quickly. But with straw on top should be better.
