I ordered 12 strawberry plants with Tesco points and they arrived yesterday. Unfortunately I'm going away for 3 weeks on Saturday and I think if I put them out on my allotment at the moment they will get drowned/ eaten/ the soil will be too wet.

I'm thinking of putting them into pots in my greenhouse but haven't got much space. What's the smallest I can get away with to leave them for 3 weeks? Or would I be better doing something else?

How about pottin them on into 1 litre pots..leaving the pots outside but putting sheet of plastic/glass over to stop rain drenching them but they will be still able to draw bit of moistre from the soil that they are standing on..and away from direct sun light. I'm sure they would stay fine for 3 weeks..and when you come back they'll be ready for planting.. ;D

Just wondering...how did you buy strawberry plants with your tesco points...did you get them from the store or did you order online?

I've got 44 strawberry plants sitting in pots, planters, windowbox trays, a cat litter tray, ice cream tubs and plastic grape packaging trays. Been there since last summer when i harvested a load of runners to up berry production. They are just sat against the wall of the house in the back garden and seem to be quite happy since they are flowering and fruiting. In fact they're about 1-2 weeks faster than their parents in the border about 2 feet opposite that were planted last year.

I plan to leave my new strawberry "bed" in pots since I read that hey are less prone to slugging than in the ground and I had BIG problems with that last year in the wee border.

I used my rewards tokens and ordered them through the clubcard rewards site. It was quite a while ago and they change the offers quite regularly, I think, so the offer might not be there any more.

Will have to see if I can find enough large pots!
