cambourne7

Mine went in around september last year

gwynnethmary

Aah!  Were they outside or in a greenhouse?

saddad

Sure... they are almost indestructible... are you going to cover them against that horrible moth?  :-\

cambourne7

there in a bed in garden would like to plant them up with better spacing

pigeonseed

That's good. Mine are nowhere near pencil more like sewing thread!

Mine too - I'm wondering if they'll ever grow up to be a pencil - I don't think they've put on any growth in the last 6 weeks.
Location: North East Spain - freezing cold winters, boiling hot summers with a bit of fog in between.

If they've been on same compost for 6 weeks..it could be that they are running out of food. Try a 'gentle' nitrogen feed and they soon start bulking up... ;)

Mine too, I was worried about them as they are very sorry looking, Ive got them in  pots and was about to give up on them.

Marlin..you leeks look just fine.. ;D If you think how long they still have to grow for being ready for harvest, for earliest  late summer onwards..its still loooong way ahead.

Emphasis on ALMOST i think here. The moth will get them given half a chance. Other than that they will put up with most things a gardener can throw at them.

I have sown mine this year in a half seed tray and plan to prick them out into modules or pots to grow on before planting out. Dont like having to disentangle them when they grow together in a pot.

I just bought my leeks seeds yesterday: Musselburgh and Autumn Giant.
Am I too late? If I sow tonight, do still have time?
I also saw a woman sowing her leek seeds straight in the ground. Is that done often? If so, should I do it as well since I am running late with sowing?

I have only grown leeks once (an old fellah gave me some plants in a tray).

Déja vu, but - pencil nonsense!

This is how mine go in. Best in before end July.

Put mine out last week.

grannyjanny

They look good Tim. Do you top & tail yours before planting?

I only top if they flop!

I only tail if they won't easily slip into the hole.

Yes..you are fine. You can sow leek almost any time of the year..and if they don't manage to grow very big..you just eat them as 'baby leeks'.. ;) ;D

cambourne7

yep Tim that's the size do u just pop into a hole and earth up??
