Can anyone tell me whats the best treatment for wood fencing or wood compost heaps at my allotment. I am going to be using old pallets and want something that is going to last a long time and not be harmfull to any plants or vegetables. Obviously the cheaper the better.

Is creosote any good?

Creosote is great at preserving wood but not so good for plants... I wouldn't use it on my compost bins. I just use wikes or wilko's cheap fence stuff...  :-X

We made our double compost bin out of  pallets, used fencing preserve and lined the bins with carboard looked fine. :)

Pallets last for years without using any wood treatments..but of course they won't look as nice if spruced up with bit of 'colour'.

When spruced up they will need resprucing up ::). Unspruced up will age naturally won't they? OH made a fence out of pallets & painted it, now it needs repainting ::).
