cotton wool compost

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if the cotton wool pads that I use  to remove make-up and to tone my face etc can go in my compost bin.  They're 100% cotton wool, so there should be no problem there should there?  I'm not sure if I should be worried about the chemicals in the make-up and cleansers, but they're not toxic so perhaps they're OK?  Any thoughts?

Ah, but they would make perfect, sweetly scented bedding for your average rodent, would they not!
If I used them (having a perfect, make-up free complexion I don't) and I wanted to use them in the garden, I would bury them deeply in the sweet pea or bean trench where the moisture retentive quality of the cotton wool would be of some use.

And also cotton takes an age to rot down. And waht about the remains of your make up on the pads. Plants may not like some "Sunset Rouge" around their roots!

Speaking of compost does anyone know if coffee filters are ok in the compost bin.  I run a B & B (plug there folks) and have a filter every day which I duly bung in the old bin but don't know if it will rot down.  Does anyone out there know the answer???

I bung mine on wardy.  The filters are paper, and paper goes on my heap quite regularly, and coffee keeps the slugs away!  Gotta be a winner.  ;D

Never thought of cotton wool going on the compost heap.
