I have grown several of these plants for the first time this year and have had a wonderfull display from them. So I would like to keep them over winter to grow again next year. Thing is I am not sure of the best way of doing it, all i know is that they can be treated the same to dahlias but since there are several ways of keep ing themn over winter (and have tried most with variable results) i am a bit confused. I was thinking of storing them dry in boxes of shredded paper, a method i intend to use for my dahlias this year and have done so in the past. is this a good idea or not?

Most of the begonia corms/tubers are still in the pots they were grown in over summer, albeit in the greenhouse where some still havent died back fully yet. The ones i have lifted are currently bedded into a seed tray of sharp sand after being attacked by vine weevil grubs.

All and any advice would be helpfull. thanks

I always have kept mine in sawdust in the unheated spare room until late January when I stand them on damp compost to start them off.
Last year I tried to leave them in the cold GH and lost the lot.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I have grown Blackmore & Langdons begonias for over 25 years some of my corms are still original and all I do to keep them is leave them in the pots or tubs until Christmas so that they are quite dry then take them out, clean them up and attach labels. I then put them into a large emtpy pot and keep in a frost free place until I want to restart them. I must admit that we have now had to move from our tied cottage and have no garden or greenhouse so this year I grew them in containers and at the moment they are all in an old bread tray in the shed but I have never bothered to use sulphur or all the other things that some people use. You can see them as the past year and in the past on my blogspot website.
