The level of corruption and nepotism is sickening. Is there such a thing as an honest politician?

Yes, but they tend not to hit the headlines, obviously.

It's all too easy for politicians to get so busy they live in a bubble and forget the real world and the concerns and values of ordinary people and this leads them to make bad judgement calls - just look at Tony Blair embracing Gaddafi, allowing "rendition", invading Iraq without a plan for the reconstruction and so on and so forth.   Look at Two Jags and his liking for grace and favour homes but with a constituency suffering high unemployment and social deprivation.  Think about all those Scottish, Irish and Welsh politicians who think the English taxpayer should subsidise their education and health service provision.  Then there's the Tories selling off state run transport and power in order to make things run efficiently and break union power - all very well till the untrammelled profit motive hits and they cease to be "service" industries run for the good of the population as a whole.

Altruism in politics is a rare thing.   Ambition can be a force for the good when well directed but it has to be ambition for one's nation and not for oneself.

I didn't take too much notice at first just putting it down to a witch hunt on a seemingly naive politician. But now they are digging deeper it don't make good reading. Trouble is, he was doing a good job at his post.

Our forces need good support lets hope they don't get let down with all these events.

How come no one noticed that Werrity kept turning up?  

Our MP has a house in the constituency which is put on his election papers as his residence but as far I know he hardly ever lives there.  I presume that when someone wants shot of him then someone wil notice, until then everyone seems to turn a blind eye.

All MPs should be subject to some kind of annual review of the work they are doing and the serivce they provide.

our MP claims for a house in the area, yet his wife and kids live in essex. he only stays here a few times per year, but put it down as a residence so he could stand for the MP's job.

That's the bit that I find so jaw-droppingly astonishing. I work in local government at at management level, but not in an area that deals with sensitive or particularly confidential information. I can't imagine for one moment inviting a mate along to come & join me at meetings, nevermind anyone tolerating it - must have been a heck of a lot of people turning of a blind eye...
