Can I use my juicer to make tom sauce? Sieving is hard work!

If so, should I cook them first?

Our juicer is definitely not good for tomatoes, we'd waste far too much pulp. Once the mixture is cooked, I  liquidise/food-process or Bamix it very quickly, then put it through a large sieve.  It is really not that much hard work.  Tip: use a ladle to work it through, that works much much more quickly than eg a wooden spoon.  Same applies to sieving any soup, always use a ladle to push it through. And use a large flat-bottomed sieve if you can find one.  Even with large quantities it goes through quite quickly.

Thanks for the tips, peanuts  :D

We bought a passata machine this year http://seedsofitaly.co.uk/product/444 and it was a great help.

Pop the toms into boiling water for a few seconds to loosen the skins, then put then through the machine.  We recycled the pulp to get the remaining juice out, and got a 79% extraction rate, which I think is pretty good.
