Potato Planters

Hi, ALL not doing a lot of gardening again next year but would still like to do some potatoes in plastic planters. Looking for a few varietys that dont grow to bushy and big did International kidney this year they looked like a jungle out of control ;D read up on charlotte , accord, and Lady christi are these 3 any good looking for a waxy potato just for boiling . If Corny Kev reads this all the best mate for the world cup I hope you come second to Wales ;)

I've had good results with Nadine when growing them in containers. I think if you choose any early or second-early variety, they don't grow as huge as maincrop potatoes. But with maincrop types..if you plant your seed potatoes almost at the bottom of the planters and keep filling them as the tops grow you get really sturdy plants and the tops are not that 'out of control'.

Oh and..I use 'pea-sticks'/old branches stuck in containers to support the tops upright..even after bad weather they are all 'tidy'.. ;)

Thinking of growing PFAs in dustbins next year - how many should I plant per bin.  Also when the bin is full of compost would it be okay to bung in a pumpkin to keep them company?
