Is it just me ,my squash or pumpkins haven't even started flowering yet.  Dont want them to leave it to late.  I know things are a bit behind, but am sure this time last year they were already small fruit on them!.  Even the sqaush in the greenhouse are the same.  Lots of leaves but no flowers.

Anyone else got this?

My pumpkins have flowers and even fruit, however the courgettes have been very slow, I am only just getting flowers now and tiny buds of courgettes. I feel like they don't appreciate variations in temperature, they have had a lot of alternance between very hot dry days and then cool damp days like today and they don't like it. I do have a couple of baby courgettes visible now so hoping to finally have some fruit off them next week.
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com

I agree with antipodes, I think the temperatures have a lot to do with it, high during the day but chilly nights, the only one of my butternuts that's going well is tucked behind the poly door out of the draughts, everything else is very slow

I fear it wont be a good year at all for sqaush/pumpkins then unless we have a late summer in to september etc

On my plot some squash plants are doing well and others have been seriously held back.  However I have noticed a change and they are picking up.  When they do get going there will be no stopping them.

If you have a shortage of flowers try and use a blossom booster product which is high in P and K.  Try not to use N at the moment as this can cause the young squash to abort once pollinated.  Lots of leaves and no flowers might be too much N.

I'm sure someone more experienced will correct me if I am wrong.

Not a kind year for squash so far.  I am sure and hope it will pick up.  Global warming could have some drastic changes to our growing in years to come.  Esp if we don't have a true season, always a bit sunny, a bit wet etc etc

Think ill just accept it isnt going to a good year Like it was.last year(had massive pumpkins) and hope.next year will be Good.  Saying that great year for soft fruit.onions.broad beans. So not all doom and gloom

Mine are the same a bit slow to get going :'( but it would be good if we had a very warm July August and September!
It would be a shame if they dont do well as I do love my squashes!!

Should I bother with a pollen booster for the ones in greenhouse which are big plants, but with only buds just forming.  The greenhouse has had chicken manure and lots of chicken pop which I believe is already high in p n k?

Courgettes just taking off, Trompetto D'Albenga getting going but some others rather slow.  Nights have been very cold for June.   Last year butternut squash poor, but other people on site did well haven't bothered this year.  I am hoping the warmer nights and the rain will be the trigger.  I give mine compost and BFB, seem to like it.
