...I realize I should do lottery more..if I could only win enough to afford not to go to work.. ::)
I would then keep my wellies on permanently and turn into proper hermit..let my hair grow wild..cook and eat my food there and then.. ;D Its good thing that I live next to lottie or I would have to get a tent for sleeping.. ;D

I am a decorator and i love my job, but time spent at the plot is just the best  :-*

Bill Door

Yes bikegirllisa.

I hate your job nearly as much as I hate my own when I am down the plot.

There use to be a bit of excitement each time i went to work after a holiday.  Now I can't wait to get back to the plot.

I admit that i was cream crackered this week end and could not face the allotment on Monday.  However.  I am trying to dig out a hawthorn bush and the roots are bigger than my forearms.

I am retired , so time should be my own, but if I have to go shopping, hairdresser etc. etc. it is a day wasted, allotment days are best, and yes I have no new clothes and my hair is a mess, but do I care.  Just have to go and talk to my lovely peas, and plants.  Strawberries were good today, gave some to neighbour and ate some tonight.  Tomorrow should be some more and ate my first raspberries today.  If I had to work, would have to be November till February, as the summer is great to be outdoors, even in the rain.

Allotment18

im fortunate  i have my allotment :)
and as part of my job at school I am Forest School Leader so get to spend time outside introducing nature and the outdoors to the children at their own pace, getting muddy too at times
if only I could get more of the outside life and less of the inside school life .. itd be perfect  ;D

Careful what you wish for working folk, several years ago I wished for more spare time for lottie etc -nervous breakdown later :o
That said now the dust has settled hours on the lottie ,hours with beloved grandchildren sometimes all the s**** was worth it.
I love my life and I'M BLESSED  :)
sanity is overated

bikegirllisa

I am ever optimistic I will have a lottery win.  Then I could spend every day at the lottie! ;D

Mrs Ava

I love my job, and my allotment, but I am a full time, self employed gardener so am out in the open all the time.  ;D

BarriedaleNick

I really really like my job but I'd still drop it like a hot stone if I could find a way to make an outdoor life pay for itself!
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

Hi_Hoe

Hah. i know what you all mean - i used to go to bed at night worrying about the next days work, but now i go to bed thinking of the lottie!

Were either all very sad or very lucky! ;D

If tha does nowt, tha gets nowt. Simple!

I'm afraid our lives would be quite different if we didn't have the allotments. I'm sure that we could fill the time in doing other things but We wouldn't be as happy. We get up each day with a purpose wether it be weeding planting harvesting or even just admiring our produce.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Dandytown

I don't like my job either and would love to spend hours and days on the plot.  But for me its all about contrast.  If I was at the allotment too much I wouldn't appreciate it as much.

Borlotti

I think you would.  Allotments days are the best.  ;D ;D

I hate it when something gets in the way of us going to the allotment.

I find that gardening is a great therapy theres something about nurturing things into life and then have the rewards of food that makes you feel a bit more connected and in a minor way self sufficient.

On my hardest days the lovely strawberrys still warm from the sun help the tears dry up quickly and by the time ive finished the tour mucnhing around the plot well tommorows a new day and theres weeding to do , things to plant watering to be done and always things to look forward to.

They say money cant buy you happiness , but it can buy you freedom from hardships and horrible work days.

onwards and upwards.

I am starting to think it's the lottie that's making me a little better able to deal with the utter randomness of my job - I work for a large US corporation.

The environment is weird - all very concerned about upsetting people, and being aware of everyone's personal growth (ha!) but at the same time, completely ready to stick the boot in with very little warning.

I find an hour on the lottie on the way home makes me more fit for human consumption by the family.  "Downloading" the day's strangeness to the plum tree is very calming. ;D

Bikegirllisa -  I work in the city for a law firm, and a lot of the time come home frazzled  - I call it earthing or grounding myself,  may sound a bit hippy but I really do think pottering around, watering, weeding, planting, pruning takes the stresses of the day away, its being at one with nature and also usually really peaceful... have to say that I never thought that I would ever get so much pleasure of out of a plot of land.  :)
