Hello everybody in allotment land. We are newbies having just taken on an allotment. The plot is approx 200 square meters. The question i ask is about measurements, would this be a full or part plot? I read that plots are measured in poles. How big is a pole?
I'm sure this site will we a huge help to Liz and myself as we have fun in freshair and get fit too.

where in norfolk are you two? (golly and kymrob)
I'm secretary of the Norfolk branch of NSALG.

200metres = approx 10 rod/pole

1 pole = 16.5 feet, the length of a horse and plough from the horses nose to the ploughmans heels. A pole is both a unit of length and area

16.5 feet = 5.5 yards = 5.0292 metres

So as area

1 pole = 5.5 x 5.5 = 30.25 sq yards or 272 sq/ft
1 pole = 5.0292 x 5.0292 = 25.29 sq metres

Rod, Pole and Perch are the same thing, just different words from different parts of the coun try. We use Poles here in Lincolnshire, but then we also have hedge takes ditch rules.

200 sq/m = 7.9 poles.
Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.

                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Most likely it's a full plot, but they vary a lot in size. Mine is 600 square yards, some are smaller than yours. Ask someone on your site to be sure.

Consider.

I own a field, you own the next one. I put up a hedge between the two. You then dig a ditch on your side next to the hedge.

I can now claim ownership of the land up to the far side of the ditch, if i want.

In Lincolnshire, hedge takes ditch.  It also operates in several other counties.

Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.
