My plot has been laid out wonderfly in 3ft wide beds. However these beds have been marked out with metal posts at each corner, so as you can imagine with a 10 rod plot I have a fair few of these posts. some are high enough to stick a fruit shoot bottle on top of so that when the kids (and us at times) are on plot we dont trip over them.
Im looking for something to stick on top of the ones that have been driven further into the ground. Im thinking neon ping pong balls but at 6 for 4.99 plus p&P on ebay that works out quite expensive.

Does anyone else have any other ideas? or know where to get cheaper ping pong balls.

I was sporting quite a bruise a few weeks ago from one of these posts as I trped over one and landed on another and one of my boys went flying over one this morning. The boys are great at avoiding those with bottles on.

I bought a bag of light plastic balls (tennis ball size) from Asda for £4.99 I think. Not sure how many there are but guessing at about 100.
They do the trick.

we use probiotic bottles, shampoo bottles, vitamin bottles, I found the ball pool balls a bit flimsy for heavy duty poles  :)

Hi - like squash64 I use the plastic play balls which I got from someone on freecycle. she was talking to me about how her children loved them and hoped mine got a lot out of them - I didnt have the heart to say they were coming to look after my veggies! They are great - I make different colour patterns out of them....!

I play tennis most days and get through 2 dozen balls every 8 weeks or so. By 'get through' I mean they lose a bit of bounce and I replace them. Normally I hand them down to friends who don't mind playing with balls with less bounce.

Check out if you have a tennis centre in the area with a coach. Tennis coaches replace maybe 4 dozen balls every month or so and they normally throw the old ones away. I'm sure most would be glad to think they would get recycled.

my problem is there is only about an inch or so sticking out the ground, enough to go flying over, so it needs to be small balls
Ive just got rid of a whole load of play balls, my boys didnt like them much.

Multi coloured play balls I think would just encourage the young uns whove got the plot next to to play with them, but that another story. I also don think they would fix very well to the short poles.

Cans are definitely too big.

I will have to have a think.

we also use drilled part through wine corks  ;D

I've used my son's old bath toys (ducks, fish etc) to top canes and posts with. They are rather more sturdy plastic than the balls I've found. Rather a twee look though and not for everyone  ;)
