Hi, we had our allotment assoc seed swap, very small turn-out so I've got some seeds for you lot if you'd like them:

climbing bean a cosse violette
bean blue lake (unopened pack)
lettuce-leaf mixed (2 x unopened packs)
parsley flat leaved (self-saved 2010)
fennel (leafy not bulbing)
courgette tondo di Piacenza (seeds of Italy)
courgette soleil F1 (yellow)
tomato Tigerella (T&M)
courgette black beauty
onion di Savona/savonese (pinkish onion, spring or over-winter)
onion senshyu yellow (over-wintering

In return, I would love some chilli seed, and coriander, if anyone has any spare. But you don't have to swap if you don't have any.

Normally I don't ask, but because it's such a lot of seeds to post off, I wouldn't mind an SAE, unless you're sending me seed of course!

I have some Cayenne chilli seeds and coriander which I'd happily swop for some courgettes if that is ok? Could I try the soleil and black beauty? I've only grown green ones before so it would be good to try something new.

I've not done a seed swop before.  How do we swop addresses?

I was wondering what to do with our left over seed packets!! I was thinking of holding onto them for the plant sale in May  :-\

1066 - I wonder whether people were just not thatinto seeds, they didn't seem to really want any of them. And a couple didn't seem that keen on the giving away bit either. one took a pack of sikkim cucumber from me, and some flower seeds, and shook out 6 coriander seeds from a packet in return, in a manner that suggested I was taking her first born child in return for cucumber seed.

Maybe people just need to get used to sharing. I gave some beans and squash seed to a good home.

We're doing a seedling swap in may too, but many seeds will be a bit late by then.

sounds a bit disappointing, but I guess we all have to start somewhere and maybe we have all been lulled by the generosity of folk on A4A in terms of swapping  :-\
It will be interesting to see what happens with us, I'm going to invite my mates who I've swapped with to bulk up the numbers, also thinking of making some cakes / biccies to tempt people to come along. I also have a few left over spuds I'll add to the mix. Fingers crossed  :)

I was thinking about May for winter growing stuff as well :-\

Anyway at least the seeds on here will be going to some good homes  :)

This is where the old practice of circulating a package of seeds came in useful; someone would probably have had them. I know there were complaints; some may have been justified, some certainly weren't. I do feel the advantages outweighed the drawbacks.

I think perhaps the cost of postage became too much.  Don't forget supermarkets etc are now selling seeds at less than the price of a stamp

1066 - yes this is a good quality allotment association! I provided chocolate teacakes, someone else made tea. At least we kept out of the rain!

lottielou, i know what you mean about postage. the new large letter thing gets us when we're sending seeds sometimes, doesn't it? still cheaper than most seed packets though. And I do like growing gifts, more special than shopping.

I get my corriander from the asian supermarket, about 70p for a huge bag.  I normally pop some in my mouth whilst scattering liberally.  When can it be sown outside and in?

I don't normally sow the cooking coriander, because it tends to go to seed faster, though one year I spilt some by accident, and did get quite a nice crop! Maybe I should do it again. I think you can sow it soon, it probably just stays dormant till it's warm enough.
