Is this in your garden on on the allotments?

Maybe this will be of some help  for the future, I have cut and pasted item:-

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Got one of these kits free from my local police force & neighbourhood watch scheme a couple of years ago. I know lots of police forces do free offers of this kit at various times.

SmartWater has been used by police forces and industry through the UK since it was first invented in the 1990s. The liquid contains a code that can be read under a ultra-violet light and is intended to be applied to valuable items so that if stolen and later seized by police, their original owner can be identified.

Suggest you check with your police force or n/hood watch scheme to see if they have a free offer now.

What are you going to do about it Pauline?

Either it is the same people coming back or your orchid house is a thief magnet - either way you've got to do something serious to stop it happening again.

I know that if anyone put a heater in their greenhouse down the allotments I'm on, it would be nicked on the first night.  It's terrible.

I think that if you are going to mark your property, it has to be with something very conspicuous so it can't be resold easily.  Personally, I wouldn't bother with the UV-visible stuff (sorry Petengade)

So sorry to hear about the theft of your heater, Pauline.

Did you have a lock on the door?  Orchids are valuable too and you don't want them taken next.

that is rotten! Hope you manage to sort something out

a hand engraver can be bought reasonably. if there is a conspicuous place write that this item has been stolen and return to name and address.
this worked for me after i had a break in at my workshop, i marked all of my hand tools.  i still have them.  after i had marked them i told everybody that i had done so. there were no more break ins
