Can any one tell me approximately how many seed potatoes I would get
in 2.5 kg bag

pumkinlover

Not really as they vary so much in size- even in one variety.
Just been helping with the pre-packs for our potato day and it's amazing the size variation.

But someone on here will hazard a guess I am sure!!

Earlies are generally smaller so you  get anything from 40 to 60+ spuds
Middles and lates are larger and you could get 30 to 40+
Ratte and PFA 65+
Thats worked out on my 3 kilo bags for the last 4 years.

I'm with Kev here.. reckon on 12-18 (av 15) per kilo...  :)

It does vary from year to year. Last year my earlies (foremost) were huge and weighed in at between 9 and 10 per kg, however seconds and lates were both approximately 15 to the kilo

If your seed potatoes are big you can always cut them as long as each piece has a eye on it.

Tattieman

It depends who you buy them from and how they are graded. If they are sold 35x60mm then you would get about 30-35 tubers in a 2.5kg pack. If they have been split graded 35x45mm and 45x60mm you might get 20 large potatoes.

Thanks Powerspade. I'll do that if they are as big this year.

My count for this year compared to last
Rocket 43 this year and 75 last year
Kestrel 37 both years
Pentland crown 47 last year Cara 38
As Tattieman says it depends how they've graded, my rockets were a lot smaller last year hence the high number, I seem to remember Tattieman commenting on the large quantity.
I have more Pentland Crowns than the Rocket, I don't know if they come up smaller but I would have been expecting under the forty mark for a main.
Ratte and PFA have been well in the 60's in previous years.
