As I wondered what bread to make next, I had a sudden desire for the simplest white loaves rather than what has become the usual exotica. So away with the spelt, rye, barley, linseeds, diastatic malt extract, and all the rest of the flim-flam.

Ah, the joys of freshly baked traditional English bread. Ploughman's lunch. Or toasted with pate.

I don't know what I do wrong when I try to make bread......

I can bake cakes, make pastry cook anything else ... sigh.

I'll probably try your receipe - if at first you don't succeed try try (and try and try) again.

Alimo, I gave up, and cheated and bought a bread machine  ;)
Ok, so it does make square loaves etc, but at least I know what has gone into it! I bought a really cheap one at Lidl for about 30 quid and it makes the best bread!
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com

Well, I've tried again.... made ciabatta  - mixing olive oil into a great gloopy dough.  It was great !  ;D

I think I could have left it for longer to rise more, but it certainly wasn't a brick..

I now have a great sense of achievement - and a husband who would love me to make bread every day!! lol

I've just checked a video on YouTube of how I make bread and it's got over 29,000 views!  It shows my way of kneading, there are other ways of course but this way works for me.
