AVG versus Miscrosoft Security essentials

Ok, so AVG needs to update (Free version) but it will not do so while M,Sec Ess. is on the machine. Now I do know how to Uninstall this, but doing so would mean having to download it again. Or would it? Not a problem if you have Broadband but a very slow process with Dialup.
What I need to know is how to hide M.S.E. from AVG, any hints?

You don't need both programs, they do the same thing! Having two antiviruses installed can cause no end of problems eg slowness, freezing up, and/or disabling each other.

I find MSE better than AVG, it uses very little memory and finds a lot of viruses that other programs miss. You shouldnt need to be on the internet to uninstall AVG.
