We've had a slighty crazy year with chilli... We ended up with about 12 plants due to a slight seed buying addiction and they've lived happily in the greenhouse all summer (had to move them all out each day to be able to water the other plants in the soil beds though which has been a pain!). They've been fed with that Chilli Focus stuff you can buy and it seem to have worked wonders!

Not sure on the final harvest as we're still picking red ones as and when they ripen and seem to have loads on the plants still to turn. We've been freezing them whole too and I think we've probably got enough to last at least a couple of years at this rate. One single plant for example has harvested well over 1lbs on it's own so far it's quite amazing... :)

Well ok, but considering we'd only grown a single chilli plant the last couple of years it was a was a bit of a leap to 12 this year... ;)

And that's 12 different varieties of chilli too not just a load of the same plants... :)

Good point :D..... I'm hoping to make the same leap next year... this year I managed about 55 tomatoes and  50 mixed chilli's, aubergines and  and peppers.... that was outdoors adn in a 14x6 polytunnel... next year I'll have a 20x10 greenhouse in the mix, though I'll probaloby drop two of the chilli's I was trying to grow this year (Tabasco and Iranian Round Hot) to concentrate on the ones that have done well, Jalapeno, Anaheim, Wenks Yellow Hot and Calabrese, though I've got some Bhut Jolokia to try as well....

Just thought I would inform you, so please forgive me if you already know! but for all you soup lovers who want to put a kick in your soup.

If you have an empty large Worcester sauce bottle - this is ideal.  Drop a whole chilli into the bottle and top up with dry sherry and leave for at least six months or more.  Then when you have some soup, you simply drop 2 to 3 drops of the chilli infused sherry into your soup and this gives it a kick.  My Mum always had this going and called it "Piri Piri", which I think is the Kiswahili name for chilli.  It gives the soup a lovely flavour.

We grow them outside (in Berks).

It was a very good crop this year, just over 5 pounds from 6 plants. The success is mainly due to the fact that we had good weather in June and July. The last excellent crop was in 2006 when we had a warm summer. 2007 and 2008 (both poor summers) brought very moderate crops while last year was ok but not especially wonderful.

We grew 2 varieties this year ... Hot Stuff and Bulgarian Carrot.

Ive seen that the bush types seem to have better crops can anyone recomend one? a medium heat one
I've been waiting and waiting and finally had enough to make chilli jam today..delicious! just need my tongue and fingers to stop throbbing now!!

I grow from T&M seeds, Plants are in 2 litre plant pots, in professional potting compost, fed with a CRF tablet (three per pot), in the green house, sitting in a watering tray.

          Thanks for the info just received my chilli seeds today so along with the 100 garlic bulbs I'm putting in it will be a spicy 2011
