Got an old ikea wardrobe - and I need a container for my carrots. Do you think I could use this or will it give off some horrible chemical?

If it's "real tree wood" it'll probably be fine, you may have to reinforce the corners to take the strain of the wet soil, but if it's compressed chip-board, MDF or even ply, chances are it'll self-destruct within a few days of getting wet.

even if its real  timber, itll only stand two or three years filled with compost and the joints will fall apart, since the glue wont be waterproof.


I use old glass fibre baths for that sort of thing.

I love the fact that we all look at objects (and other people's junk) and think well could I use that on my allotment?! I've been using plastic crates and boxes for my carrots, and it has worked a treat  :)
