When past this field today(several fields), near an old colliery area, and am wondering is it some kind of biofuel possibly sugar cane?

I don't think global warming has got that bad yet ;) Although British mosavado sugar would be nice.... :)

looks like miscanthus, AKA elephant grass. It's used as a bedding for many livestock, from hens and rabbits through to horses and cattle.
You couldn't make it up!

thanks, never seen it grown before!!
thought i was a bit of the mark when i said sugar cane

Just seen on google that farmers grow it as an energy crop as saw it close by one winter and it looked all dead, but obviously awaiting harvest.
