All of our brassicas are grown in enviromesh compounds, with netting draped over the top.

Combined with a bit of hot weather, and enough water, it seems to be a formula for accelerated plant growth. Our summer cauli's (planted mid May)were mature and harvested two weeks ago. Yesterday we found that the autumn cauli's (Deakin F1), planted late May,  all had full size curds on too.

Brussels, swedes, and calabrese and cabbages are all coming on at astonishing speed - if the nets keep the cabbage-whites out, it will be an exceptional year!

We thought it was also a good year for pests, until the allotment site was hit by a black-fly plague.......
Why plant rows of 24 lettuces??

I've noticed an improvement in size, and a quicker growth in netted brassicas too....  :)
