We have just started growing our own from seed. This is my first go at growing crystal lemon cucumber which we have been eating for about a week now.

Thanks guys and yes it is a really good feeling. I reckon those crystal lemon cucumbers are idiot proof well they had to be to let me grow them ;) Been growing lots of tomatoes from seed and have got a lot of nice looking plants but not one riipe tomato yet ::) Been inundated with lettuce but have lost some from boulting but we are slow lettice eaters at the best of times (have given lots away too). Is it the dry weather? Even the runner beans are slow to fruit.

Beans have been a bit slow this year, and if you were conservative with your tomato regime (varieties adn planting times) then I'm not surprised you haven't had ripe ones yet, they will come though..... Interested in the Crystal Lemon's though, I'm a cucurbit fiend generally (55 squash plants, 15 courgettes, 12 gherkins) so I might keep an eye out for them.... I've got some Marketeer in this year but they are being slow to fruit (and are getting swamped by the gherkins)

I think I planted out my tomatoes at the beginining of June. Do you think that wasnt early enough Chris?  I am pleased with the Crystal Lemon's and i think I will grow them again next year but I will look for a F1 cucmber next year so I dont have to worry about the pollenation.

I would still grow some Crystal lemon as they are lovely cucumbers and so plentiful.  With the F1's they are much more expensive and not as productive!

I have only just started getting some tomatoes in the polytunnel in the last week or so - so you aren't far behind!  I assume that you are feeding them with tomato food which helps in turning them red?

You don't have to worry about pollination unless they're indoors. Try growing them outdoors.
