My new compost bin

Was built today-about 4*4*5 ft wooden cube  of 4*1 inch lengths screwed to 3inch fence  posts in those short spikes. How did we ever manage before cordless drills?

There is something about a new bin-I might even do some weeding to fill it ;D

That's a nice job.   Before cordless drills?   Hammer and nails.   Some of us primitifs still use them.  Be fair though, even hammer and nails do a better job with a bit of pre-drilling.  (You get a stronger grip).

We used a Hand Drill (wheel brace) or Brace and bit. Before that a Red Hot Poker (Paddy's Auger).

I've never used a hot iron to make a hole, but for small jobs, the old fashioned Archimedes drill is very efficient, and there's the bow drill if you persevere long enough to get the knack of it. Hand drills are hard work, but a brace and bit is good for larger holes.

It is raised now-the posts are in metal spikes( the short ones)-. In a few months time the soil/compost will cover the gap.

Cordless drills are great-in the past I just used to use wire nails but that meant I had to put 1*1 lengths onto the front posts so as to just slot in the front wood for ease of removal. This way it saved my faffing around and I reckon I can just unscrew one side of three in rotation everytime I want to empty it

Oh and as it fills I will complete the front-but not yet,why complete the job when I only need to lift stuff in at the bottom for now ;D
