Hi all can anyone help? the end of my lottie slops down and I want to even it out and raise it a bit. I'm going to make a seed bed as I'm rapidly running out of windowsill space. I live in Manchester does anyone know where I can get some old scaffolding planks from? cheap if not free? Thanks Sarah_o

Sarah, try phoning all the scaffolders in your area, from the yellow pages, they must have to do something with the split/broken ones! (unless they all have lotties ;D)

Health and safety depicts that all damaged boards have to be destroyed. You might be lucky if you try a small builder. Gravel/kick boards are treated and will last for years, but you have to buy them from a timber merchant. Failing that strip down the allotment holders favorite,    PALLETTES

Nooooooooo  what a waste of boards!!  Just think what us lottie people could do with those scaffold boards!

I would still try the scaffolders Sarah, because that is where I got mine from.. They charged me something like 22p a foot length and they have been condemed.  I also got hold of some scaffolding sections to use as a frame for runner beans and they only cost about £2 each..
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

Thanks everyone. I'll have a big ring around tomorrow. Wish me luck.  ;)

Hi Sarah i have just this minute brought 15 second hand scaffold boards off a scaffold firm but they cost me a fortune £7.80 for a 13ft board, but they are like new I want them to make 5 raised beds as my soil as got diseased by the previous owners with not rotating the crops so i have got to bring fresh soil in. A bit off a pain but if it works it will be worth it, hope you can find some cheaper Sarah
