17, yes, 17,  250 gallon barrels were delivered to our site yesterday with another 15 to come, all free from a company called pataks, smell a bit like mango chutney but cleaned with tight fitting lids on, I was overjoyed, we have a dispute going with THE CLUB about water so are trying to be self sufficient, we already have lots of wate rbutts but open at the top so get full of mosquito larvae and leaves, sad, isn't it, being so happy about a load of blue barrels  ;D

do you mean 250 ltr drums?  250 gallon drums are over 1000 litres in size, and weigh over a tonne when full. be sure to construct suitable foundations if they are the 1 tonne type (known as IBM containers)

IBC - Intermediate Bulk Container

They're 1 cubic metre in volume. The weight of the contents depends on the bulk density.
Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.

If mine smelt of mango chutney, I'd climb inside and sit there just sniffing,  all day long.  ;)

see a program where they put water lillis and gold fish into water butts to keep them insect free :) not sure that would help?

Robert_Brenchley

That's exactly what I'm planning once I get my big water tank sorted. It'll do nicely for fish and a couple of lilies.
