Are you in a different time zone, Bugloss? It's still April here for another 11 days! ;) But in answer to your question, the GQT forecast yesterday was suggesting ground frost in some areas this week.

metcheck (which I know is a bit rubbish) has frost for the 29th. That's close enough to May for me  ???

I know it's not that unusual, but it's just been so cold for so long

Translated to Never get rid of your warm neck scarf until June. Is usually true one sharp frost can ruin everything. At 6am (yes six o'clock does come twice a day) It is still pretty cold.

The longer days help because frost is often just for a short period which a lot of things will overcome but this year the ground simply is not warming up to the required temperature yet. Dry chilling winds have been around during the day in exposed areas too. I suggest everything will be a little late this year. Wait a while......live plants will catch up,  damaged ones will grow more slowly and dead ones will stay dead.

I remember 5 or 6 years ago, the last frost in Nottingham was in June and the first one was October, giving us 3 frost free months!

I've seen hard overnight frosts here in London during late May and even early June! Mind you that was a long time ago but you never know...

I think it's the hawthorn too!

Last year we had a frost on 1st/2nd June - open situation between Derby and Nottingham.  That's fairly usual, I don't put tender stuff out till 2nd week in June.  If you look at Local Authorities, they don't put out that expensive carpet bedding stuff till then either.

Frost here tomorrow & Wednesday nights.

And yes, we get them in June too!

Wow, I don't remember frost as late as that, maybe on the coast we didn't get it so late..we are complaing of the heat here already and both of us are sunburned. I feel really bad about plant losses. I do hope this is the end of it for you all Just watching the weather forecast now as we speak, hot again today.XX Jeannine

We had a frost last night and one forecast for tonight also.....not seen the forecast for the remainder of the week yet.

I went straight to my plot after work and earthed up my potatoes a bit more.

I have known snow every morning for the first week in May... it was '79 and 800' up in the Pennines...  ::)
