Morning All,

I have bought myself 2 x 12" Garland Aqualoc Hanging Baskets and I am planning on growing Tumbling Toms, red in one and yellow in the other.

My question is, how many plants would you recommend I put into each of the baskets?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

I'd only put one plant in each otherwise there will be too much competition for water and nutrients for a good crop.   :)

I have planted up to 4 but those baskets were under automated watering system...without it 1 or 2...depends how eager you are with watering can... ;)

Glen

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Think I will stick to one plant in each then and see how they get on.

I've got Whippersnapper which does well in baskets..
Silvery Fir is supposed to look good too, small bush with very dissected foliage...  :-\

It was Whippersnapper I was referring to, David!!

Thanks Guys.

Tonybloke PM sent.

So Whippersnapper is a good variety for baskets, this could be an idea for next season.

You have time to set them now Glen. They are relatively blight resistant I had baskets fruiting until October outside all last year..  :)

Anybody grown gartenperle? I've just set some off, having never grown them before.
I hoe, I hoe, then off to work I go.

So that's another couple of varieties I'll have to look out for  ::)

RobinoftheHood - I'm trying Gartenperle for the 1st time too, so I'm hoping its a good un as well !

saddad

I grow it and like it... but it's not as good in baskets... still does ok though...  :)

How about feeding them in baskets then?

Never used baskets before either....

I just gave mine a feed about once a week. I also used some water retaining gels stuff - and I think it did help with the watering situation. Being smaller plants they didn't seem as thirsty as standard tom plants.
