Two jays!

The jay is a bird that I rarely ever catch more than a fleeting glimpse of but yesterday I got out of the car outside home and looked up to see one at eye level on the branch of a nearby tree.
This morning was even better as I watched two jays on the grass out back feeding on the bird food that I'd scattered earlier. Wonderful!  :)

I guess I must be lucky as for the last 6 months approx. one or two Jays have visited my garden every day. They eat food scattered on the ground especially whole peanuts (if they get to them before the Jackdaws) and often come within 6-10' of the window. They have also developed the ability to eat peanuts from a hanging feeder. I live in the country and I am surrounded by fields, hedges and woods and Jays are fairly common.

They like trees. They're always around my site.

Lovelly looking bird but I reckon they take other birds chicks from nests.

I have never seen a Jay.  They are almost absent in this area, like the Magpies.  I see they are lovely looking birds though and a corvid.

I  have a wood at the bottom of my garden and get quite a few jays and yes they do take the chicks from the nests i have seen them do this .

Carol, have you listened to the jackdaws around the church in Kelso by the car park.  One of my favourite sounds, they seem so happy.
