All the odd jobs on our site have previously been done by one man, apart from when we painted the perimeter fence which was done by a group of plotholders.

We want to set up a group which will take care of maintenance ..... but what do we call it?  Working party?  Maintenance group?  Chain gang?  ;)

What do other sites have? I want to make some posters but my mind's gone blank and I don't know what to call it.

We have work parties every few months, but it's really only the committee that turns out. I wish we could get other people more involved!

We call them Working Parties. And - as an independent site - it's in our Terms & Conditions that all members are expected to help. (Which doesn't mean all the members all the time, but they all have a commitment to help in some way.)

We had our first one yesterday morning. We're renewing the central drainage trench through the centre of the site, so it was hard - and very messy - labour, with one group doing the actual digging, others barrowing away the spoil and others cutting through bramble ready for next week. We had something like a dozen folk turn up. We've got three more sessions this month.

But later in the year we'll have a couple of sessions cutting back the hedge along the road boundary, a litter pick and a general tidy-up day (weekend last year, when we had a skip). And whatever else needs doing.

As soon as members turn up once, they realise: a) what fun it is (seriously!), and b) what a difference it makes to the site have loads of people tackling one thing.

we have work parties as and when needed, followed by a big breakfast, seems to bring more people in  ;D

More like slaves >:(..it is allways the same few...
In this years AGM we bought the matter up and  there were many volunteer hands that came up... ::)...we live in hope...

Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll call it 'Work Party'  Somehow it makes it sound fun and it's more friendly than 'Chain Gang'!  :D

We just have site days twice a year..
..and twice a year all the same people turn up and do a great job while the rest benefit from our hard work..

How about Betty's bring a spade party  ;D  :P

Good luck with it - but your site does sound lovely so I'm sure you will have some volunteers, and I like Manics version with breakfast included  :)
