Mice - I could swear

Had loads of sweetcorn in the cold frame and the mice ate 12 of me best plants:(, gutted!, also had peas but throught we had combatted problem.  I caught the critter in the act!!!

So now we have moved coldframe, done a slab base and edged with bricks to stop anything getting in

Anyone else had more problems with mice then usual this year!,

The Blighters got 3 of my broad beans and messed up a tray of peas..dont usually have a problem in the greenhouse

Was told that when certain seeds germinate they give off a smell that lures the mice in...no doubt someone can elaborate on that :)

Is  that why some people swear by soaking peas in parraffin before sowing?

mice usually eat the seed, it's slugs that eat the plants (usually)

Two years ago in May 2008 my wife found a baby mouse on the pavement.

Here he is in June 2008 and we have him still. He is called Bob and he is a woodmouse.

He has given us a disproportionate amount of pleasure compared with his size.

Every time I have damage from a mouse attack I think of Bob and cannot be cross.

I agree that wood mice are adorable - I get them in my garden.  But sadly they rarely live beyond two years.   :(

Very cute.

We have had mice in the house and garden (old terrace row) on and off since 2004, call out the council exterminators and they put down more poison seed. Fortunately it looks like they've died off this year, haven't seen any and the bait is still there.

I would much rather not kill them, but don't really have much choice since they chew wiring and once one managed to get inside the back of the oven, electrocuted itself and cost us £200 in repairs the week before Christmas (I was more worried about being able to cook Christmas Dinner)
