Critters in my cabbages...

I have just harvested a couple of red cabbages from the remains of my brassica cage. They are about 5" across but the outer layers are full of holes and there are clumps of eggs in there  :P

Eventually I managed to peel them back to a clean-looking cabbage like you'd find in the supermarket... am I being too fussy? Should I just cook them with eggs and holes and stop being so neurotic? Or is there anything I can do to stop the critters, which doesnt involve spraying them with DDT?

You do not say what the creatures are, but I will assume that they are slugs and snails. If that is the case, use anti-slug treatments. Quite safe as you have netting over the area.

I always take off the horrible leaves  :-X and rubbish and eggs and slugs. Do you really want to have slugs and eggs cooking along with  your vegetables?!!!
