Are there guidelines for compensation payouts for a RTA injury ?

A friend got bumped the other week and thinks he's going to get thousands for a minor sore neck.

i don't suppose they are far wrong. Depends on how good your ambulance chaser is.

Depends how good his lawyer is, there are no fixed rates of compensation for RTA's.
I have been run over twice with fairly serious injuries on both occassions but didn't bother claiming as I don't agree with the compensation culture. The drivers of the vehicles would of been shaken up by the accidents & will hopefully of begun paying more attention to what they are doing on the road (eg: not running red lights) & hopefully they won't end up killing anyone because they don't pay sufficient attention to what they are doing while driving which is more important than me getting a few quid in my pocket & some sleazy laywer making money out of it.

my sister was hit from behind and sustained whiplash and got a grand!

Someone bumped my car last week, only a minor one, and it is in the garage being fixed by the other person's insurance.  Tonight I had a phone call from someone asking who was injured in the accident - they hung up when I asked them to repeat who they were but were obviously ambulance chasers - but how did they know my car had been bumped?  And my phone number, I am ex-directory!  Nothing is private any more!! ::)

Sholls

A dizzy mare on a mobile phone accelerated into the rear of my stationary vehicle in early 2007. I received a four figure sum for seatbelt bruising (I have legal cover via my insurance) & inconvenience.

I was honestly shocked at how high the payout for the bruising was; I'm self-employed, so my main concern was to recoup the value of the 'time' I wasted dealing with all the insurance malarky. In contrast, the other person in the car took the brunt of the impact, suffers to this day and is still waiting to be compensated; such is life.  ::)

I think many people try to get onto the band wagon thinking they are going to get a good pay out when involved in an accident, but I can assure you this is untrue, you'll get the minimum

Slug_killer

Ahhh, but what is the minimum ? Especially if solicitors are on a percentage.  :o

I got nothing but my lost pay as I have a 'pre-existing' condition(arthritis in my neck)  :-\

Two years ago I was rammed into by a Boy Driver and knocked off the road and down an embankment.  My Car was a write off and I was badly bruised with the seat belt and air bag.  My Insurance company, the then Norwich Union passed on a Personal Injury claim form and I was offered under a 1K for my bruises.  I then told them I was now a 'nervous driver' and felt that every driver was now a threat so was given another 500.  The claim took almost a year to come through.  I am a very nervous passenger now and extremely nervous on country side roads.

By the way the lad could have killed me.  He was up in Court, given 9 penalty points and fined £350.
