Strange noise coming from my Rhubarb :o

i decided to give up on weeding my asparagus today because of the strange noise coming from under my rhubarb. At first I thought i had imagined it and carried on working but then i heard it again. i couldn't see anything and given it was a very strange sound and i was scared i decided it was time to go home.

The rhubarb has very big leaves nearly 3ft across and has now collapsed onto the ground but I couldn't see anything or any movement just a noise that sounded a bit llike a sick cat choking but what ever it was must have been smaller as i cat would have been an obious bulge in the rhubarb.

Help any ideas...i'm scared to go back! :-[

  Hedgehog ?    they make a lot of noise when they are mating --  usualy at night though,

  Bet  ' it ' wont be there tomorrow, go back and have a look for evidence - reporting back

Might have been a pheasant. We have quite a few on site but they usually sit tight until you get too close then make a lot of noise as they leave. The females can be hard to see I nearly stood on one day.
It was gone the next day whatever it was. i searched my rhubarb with the aid of a long stick to lift up the leaves.
