Tee Gee

Thought you might like to see how my plots are progressing.

I would say I am a bit ahead of myself (although some of you will think otherwise  ;D )

Normally I dont start planting out till mid May (14th) but as you can see some of my stuff is two or three weeks ahead of that.

Are you growing your butternut squashes upwards like tomatoes?

Basically yes but unlike tomatoes I will be using the side shoots as opposed to removing them!

What are the pots next to your tomato plants for??

Hector

Tee Gee, what spacing have you got for the squash in your picture...and available climb height....what a well organised set up!

Watering!

I find this takes the water down deeper into the soil rather than just slaking the surface when spraying with a watering can.

I think this is imperative under glass as the surface of the soil tends to dry out rather quickly this way it gets down to where it does most good! i.e. the water  seeking roots are at the base of the root ball.

I don't really measure as such these five plants are in a 7'-6" ( 2.3m) long bed, so I guess they are roughly 18" (.5m) apart.

Height? Again this is not measured as I am governed by the height of the greenhouse.

The mesh I used is 4ft wide (1.2m) and is about 15" (40cm's) above soil level so I guess it must be just a little over 5ft (1.5m) high. I can possibly get anoter couple of feet higher up the roof slope if needs me.

If you always do what you always did you'll always get what you always got!

Can you explain Tee Gee does it mean you are going to use every side shoot that grows? I am new at growing squashes and hadn't even thought of growing them upwards!
