Have been going to the plot almost everyday this week. When we went yesterday we noticed that the blackcurrants looked a bit shiny. On inspection we found that most of the bottom leaves on the plant had all shrivelled on 2 of the plants and they were smothered in whitefly..Has anyone else had this happen
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

just done all of ours with liquid derris, I know it's not allowed to be sold any more but it works and I have some left, ours were a mix of green, black and white fly  :o
I've been squishing them up to now 'cos the ladybirds are letting me down  :(

I ain't seen any ladybirds either. I sprayed mine yesterday with Rapid (kind to bees and ladybirds) The 2 bushes that were affected don't seem to be any worse and at least it hasn't spread to the other bushes. We have 3 sycamore trees on the top of the plot and they look as if they are infested cos they are all sticky. Strange eh!

I think the various varieties of tits are all a bit late in nesting this year.  Once the youngsters hatch out almost every insect in the garden will disappear like magic and there won`t be any more until the youngsters are fledged

Dunno about insects disappearing. I've had great tits nesting on my plot, and raiding beehives all day. They made no impact at all on the numbers.

I've got whitefly all over one of my blackcurrant bushes too.  Thought I might try spraying with liquid soap.  Still no sign of ladybirds - there were loads last year.
