No, I'm not abusing red heads! I love them!

Seriously I am going to plant some shop-bought ginger in my herb bed and see how it goes.  Question is - what is the best way to plant it - totally bury it or leave some of it exposed?

I have planted some in a pot indoors and I have half buried it - well I have left some showing so perhaps more than half.  I now have two shoots so it appears to be working.

i would put in a pot then sink into the soil, only because its not frost hardy and would need to be brought indoors when the temps start to drop.

Might be worth starting it off somewhere warm to get it going, airing cupboard or propegator usually work a treat!

It`s usually sufficient to start it off in a pot on the kitchen window ledge.  If you can find a bud on the piece of root leave this partly exposed.  Mine was rather wasted effort because I discovered that  50 years after I last drank home made ginger beer I suddenly didn`t like it any more.
