Hi all
I have had THE most fantastic day at the allotment today - i power hoed my way through the site in glorious sunshine.

However - I was met with a catastrophic sight this morning , all of my onions, shallotts, leeks and chives have been eaten down to about 3 inches.

Could you help and tell me - will they still grow or should i sort out the rabbit problem and replant? Also I see that the leaves are like straws - will the rain get in the holes that have been left by the rabbits and make them rot?

please let me know x

Rabbits eat anything green.

Simple answer. Eat the rabbit.

Unwashed

I've found that the rain goes down the hollow broken-off flower spikes and rots the onion so I'd guess it could do this for the leaves.

We have a similar problem, but I think Pheasents and Wood Pigoens are on my wanted list.

Rabbits do eat aliums .We used to shoot a little wod that had a lot of wild garlic.
The bunnies from there were inedible .They stank the place out when you cooked em. I like garlic but not as strong as they tasted .

Wish I could shoot Wood Pidgeon!  Not really the done thing In SE London though but with the amount of stuff they eat they should be fat and tasty.
