I think i'm going to be one of the lucky few who's applied for an allotment this week and will actually get one without going on a huge waiting list.  I'm off to see two allotments tomorrow, one a half plot and the other a full sized plot.  Both require work done and clearing but the if i take one on i will get it half price for 2 years so i'm quite happy to work hard for a bargain  ;D

Anyhoo it's *nice* to meet you all and i'm now off to look at all the threads for beginners.

Welcome to A4A Theresa...  ;D
Whereabouts are you in the great wide allotment world...  ???

Welcome to the forum.  Be a devil...... take the full plot ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome, i really don't know if i could cope with a full plot but i'd kick myself if come next year i near more space lol.  I'll probably come away tomorrow with a full plot  ;D

sadad i'm in stoke on trent which has 78 allotment sites with most of them having huge waiting lists, i was lucky in that my local has a huge waiting list (it's now closed) but this one is about 5 minutes walk away from my nan so when i'm cream crackered from digging, i'll crawl to her flat for a pick me up cuppa and phone call for someone to take me home lol.

Not that far away really then... which one of the towns in "Stoke"? 78 sites is good we have about 25 in Derby but Stoke is much bigger...  :)

I live in Hartshill which is between newcastle under lyme and "old" stoke so i am lucky that i can apply to both borough councils for allotments.  The one i'm viewing today is in Trent Vale which is really good for me as my nan is a 5 minute walk away from it and my parents are about 10-15 minutes walk away (and of course when i can't move for aches and pains a lift is only 5 minutes away)  :D :D

As i can't drive the allotments are probably about 20-30 minutes walk from my house so i should be getting fit fairly quickly a i plan to work on it 3 times a week

Definately take the full plot, I was offered a half or whole and first said half but changed my mind to whole and am so glad, you run out of space so fast if you are a seed addict!

Hi Theresa, take the plunge and go for the biggie you know it makes sense, ask how much is expected to be fully dug this year, if you cover half then you can be getting on with the over half while the weeds are suffocating.  ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.
