I bought a bag of Mayan Gold potatoes because they were half-price at Sainsburys and was really impressed with them.  I see that T & M sell them but I wondered if anyone here had grown them and how they did.

Grew them the year before last and was very impressed with them. They were the last to succumb to bad blight, and I had a moderate yield of very tasty buttery flavoured spuds.

Couldn't get hold of them last year, but this year am trying them again plus new related varieties Mayan Twilight and Mayan Queen as well.
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Thanks for that Deb, I think I will give them I try.  I made potato wedges with them yesterday and my (very fussy) son said they were the best he's ever had!

I agree, they are lovely, we had them last year for the first time and missed out this year, unfortunately.  I think we'll order specially this autumn just to make sure we get them.

Just a thought, but would there be anything wrong in buying some from Sainsburys and planting them?
I know we are not supposed to, but none of my relatives buy seed potatoes, they save their own, or use some they've bought for eating.  They get good crops every year.

i grew them last year and really enjoyed them. if you did grow suppermarket pots then just grow them in sacks, etc to reduce the risk of introducing pests to your soil.

I grew them in both a bed and a bag last year. The bag yielded better but I think that was just because I harvested the bed too early. Lovely flavour but don't bother to try and boil them!

T&M look as if they still have stocks - but not cheap.

I grew some last year from a trial pack, thought they were great. Ordered my seed from Alan Romans http://www.alanromans.com/; a much better supplier and about half the price of T&M

Agreed, I'd always suggest Alan Roman's in preference to T&M but he appears to be out of stock.  Actually it might be worth checking directly because last year his system told me it was out of stock but when I e-mailed it turned there were some available.
