tim, I`ve never believed that simply removing the haulm was a sufficient protection after blight has struck.  Even with the greatest care some spore-bearing detritus is usually left on the surface, and while the spores on the soil surface should die within your 3 week waiting period, those on the detritus will not.

The solution (as I`ve several times posted on both the BBC and these boards) is to flame over the bed with a flame gun immediately after removal of the haulm.  Properly done this will sanitise the soil surface and everything on it, and not only will there be no spores to wash down through the soil, but you can in fact harvest the crop immediately instead of giving the slugs and wireworm and extra 3 weeks to eat them.

Sorry aboput that tim.  That last posting was supposed to be in reply to your WHICH REPORT posting, and I appear to have replied twice.  Unfortunately we seem to repeat ourselves occasionally (according to my family) as the years add on.
