Mulching over spring bulbs

If I put down a bark chipping mulch over a border where I have planted snowdrops and crocuses (and other spring flowering bulbs which I can't remember the names of now) will the chippings cause a problem when the bulbs want to emerge from the ground?

Does not seem to bother them in our garden. Admittedly the mulch is home produced shreddings of woody prunings rather than a commercial product.
Actually most bulbs have the ability to move themselves up or down in the soil to grow at the best depth for themselves. So a mulch should not harm them at all. May even stop the squirrels or mice from digging them up too.
Gardening is the great leveller.

Thanks Palustris, I followed one of the advertising links that Dan had posted above (which now seems to have dissapeared) and found a place (AHS Direct) that sells a fine mulch. They also deliver top soil, horticultural grit etc, I have been trying to find a place that delivers that sort of thing in smaller quantities so have placed an order with them. I am hoping that the fine grade mulch will be light enough to not pose any problems to emerging bulbs in the spring.
