Sprouters?

I know this is not a recipe as such, but does anyone sprout their own seeds to eat? I am thinking alfalfa etc.

What do you use? A proper sprouter? Jam Jar adapted, and if so how?

Any info or advice welcome!

what a coincidence, i use to and restarted two weeks ago :).

i have a Being Fare Sprouter http://www.herbsgardenshealth.com/images/Alkalising_Pics/Salad_sprouter.jpg but mine has three clear sprouting trays.

when i  bought mine about four years ago i got it from the organics catalogue as a starter pack which they still have available http://www.organiccatalogue.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1729 the book is very informative and the starter seeds are great for an amateur :).

we eat lots of dry legumes so i sprout a variety of stuff along with alfalfa, etc, i do fine though i found the only way to sprout brassicus without them spoiling/ or going mouldy is to sprout in a thin layer of compost, then i throw the left over root mat in my compost bin.

i also sprout from time to time salad leave seed mixes, but again in a thin layer of compost. when i sprout in compost i use those short sided punnet trays that strawberries and other soft fruits come in, i line the tray with a sheet of paper towel to keep the soil from falling through.

Always used a litre jar with muslin 'lid'.

I bought a sprouter from T&M a few years back, and it was popular for a bit then fell into disuse, as these things do.  I dug it out last year to sprout some seeds (for growing! rather than eating) and since then we've kept it topped up permanently with a selection for sandwiches, omelettes etc or for just snacking.  We eat packed lunches now, so it 's very popular.

which works very well.. or would do if I wasnt so lazy.

Currently has potatoes chitting in it!
